Jesús Romero-Trillo is Full Professor in Pragmatics at the Department of English Philology (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid). After finishing his B.A. in English Philology at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (with honours), he obtained an MSc in Applied Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, as a Stevenson Scholar (1990) and finished his PhD at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1994). He specialises in Applied Linguistics with specific emphasis on the pragmatics-intonation interface in English and on the theory and application of corpus linguistics to cognition and the study of social conflict. Dr Romero-Trillo has published extensively in top rank journals, such as the Journal of Pragmatics, International Journal of Corpus Linguistics, Journal of Linguistics, Intercultural Pragmatics, Pragmatics and Cognition, etc. and has also published over many book chapters with publishers such as Oxford University Press, Springer-Nature, DeGruyter, Elsevier, John Benjamins, etc.

Jesús Romero-Trillo is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Corpus Pragmatics (Springer-Nature), the Review Editor of Intercultural Pragmatics (DeGruyter) and the book series Yearbook of Corpus Linguistics and Pragmatics (Springer-Nature), and has also edited other volumes: Pragmatics and Corpus Linguistics (Mouton de Gruyter, 2008), Pragmatics and Prosody in English Language Teaching (Springer, 2012). Research Trends in Intercultural Pragmatics –with Istvan Kecskes- (Mouton de Gruyter, 2013),  Yearbook of Corpus Linguistics and Pragmatics: New Domains and Methodologies (Springer, 2013). Yearbook of Corpus Linguistics and Pragmatics: New Empirical and Theoretical Paradigms (Springer, 2014). The Yearbook of Corpus Linguistics and Pragmatics 2015: current approaches to discourse and translation studies. (Springer, 2015). The Yearbook of Corpus Linguistics and Pragmatics 2016: Global implications for culture and society in the networked age. Jesús Romero-Trillo is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Pragmatics, of the Edinburgh Textbooks in Applied Linguistics, and of the Journal of English Studies. He has been the Review Editor of the journal Intercultural Pragmatics since its inception in 2005.

As regards administrative and academic positions, Prof. Romero-Trillo has participated in the Madrid Board for University Lectureship Accreditations, ACAP, for English and Linguistics (2006- 2012), and is a member of the National Board for the selection of tenured associate professors in Spain (ANECA) (2008-2010), and a board member of ACREDITA (ANECA) 2023-2026).

Prof. Romero-Trillo was appointed to the National Board for supervision and validation of PhD Degrees in Spanish Universities, ANECA, as the only representative for English Language and Linguistics (2010-2015).

Last, but not least, Jesús Romero-Trillo has been actively involved in peace-making activities in conflicts around the world such as Mozambique, Angola, Burundi, Nepal, Equatorial Guinea, Iraq, the Basque Country,  etc. Find  below a selection newspaper articles about my activities as a peace negotiator:
